Katie Davies works by establishing professional relationships to institutions and individuals in order to create new work, tactically critiquing the increasingly restricted situations by which society and space are structured and prearranged.
Davies’ work often operates by inhabiting a liminal position or by becoming undetectable or impartial, as a way of drawing attention to, undermining or questioning the reason and influence of a system. Operating as a foil, her practice attempts to reposition an audience’s perspective. The opportunity of this repositioning allows a space for artistic dialogue to present itself.
Davies graduated with an MA in Fine Art at Sheffield University in 2005. She is currently Artists in Residence at Sheffield Town Hall and Yorkshire Artspace and has exhibited her work in many exhibitions in the UK and abroad including the Millennium Galleries during Art Sheffield 08 and Glasgow International 2008 earlier this year, Art Video Exchange (AVE), Burgen Kunsthall, Norway, 2007, the Shanghai Fringe Festival in 2006 and Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2005. She was recently artist in residence and visiting lecturer at Kookmin University in Seoul, South Korea.
